Lauryn Hill first burst on the music scene in 1994 as part of the R&B/hip-hop group, The Fugees, and soon became a massively successful solo star. It was Lauryn’s voice on the Fugees’ biggest hit, a rendition of “Killing Me Softly,” off of the group’s 1996 album, The Score. In 1998, Lauryn carved her name in music history with the release of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. A critical and commercial success, Miseducation won five Grammys, including Best New Artist, Best R&B Song, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B album. It also won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, the first ever hip hop album to win that accolade. She also became the first woman to win five Grammys in a single night.
