The Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, Balram Bhargava determined that the Rapid-Antigen Tests and Home-Antigen Tests help in early detection of Covid from the third day of infection occured to the eight day, which is known as the infectious period. And these are the main sources to find the attacked virus infection easily and early too.
Having said that, the gold standard tests (RT-PCR) can detect certain non-infective RNA particles even after the 8th day, results in positive.
The production capability of RT-PCR and RAT kits is 1.5 crore per day, in comparison with other available testing kits in India. Among these two, RT-PCR test kit can test more than 20 lakh samples a day.
Government has advised that high-risk contacts of active Covid cases those are recognised according to age or chronicities, undertaking inter-state travel, are no need to get tested. And, there is no necessity of Covid test, if there are travellers who get discharged from Covid facility under the revised discharge strategy, and the persons who have discharged from home-isolation, but they must wear masks.
But, symptomatic individuals, who even tested negative through a home test or Rapid-Antigen test, should prefer RT-PCR test. This rule has been proposed by ICMR in the recent times.
